The New Year is here, which means that many people are looking at how to start a fitness plan in January across Bristol.
And while New Year’s Resolutions are often made with the best intentions, beginning your fitness and wellbeing journey can be a daunting prospect.
Devising and executing a bespoke fitness plan requires thoughtful consideration, honest evaluation and goal-setting for the weeks ahead.
Many clients who come to Active8 have already tried working solo on a personal fitness plan in the past and decided they need a professional and qualified personal trainer to help them reach their goals.
Developing a fitness plan with our PTs in Henleaze and Clifton is a process that involves a number of key elements. These include:
Health Questionnaire
Before embarking on a fitness plan in January, all of our Bristol personal trainers require clients to complete a Health Questionnaire. This is vital.
Clients need to be honest about their current fitness level and any health issues or conditions that could impact a fitness plan we create.

Purpose of Plan
Another early important question to consider is the purpose of a fitness plan.
All clients working with Active8 PTs have a specific and well-defined goal in place for their fitness plan, and their programme is guided by this purpose.
Setting clear goals and knowing why you are working on a fitness plan in January will help it to become a regular part of your wellbeing routine in 2026.
Clients have many reasons to work with our personal trainers in Bristol, but typically they include losing weight, building strength, improving overall health, training for a specific sporting event, or recovering from an injury.
Commit to action
One of the hardest things to retain when starting a fitness plan in January in Bristol is momentum, and keeping action ongoing as the weeks pass.
This is why working with a personal trainer helps to focus and guide clients.
More importantly, our PTs work closely with clients to ensure they are adhering to the correct technique and form to prevent injuries, utilising a range of fitness activities including strength training and cardio, as well as making sure clients warm up and cool down appropriately.
Prioritise after-care
Working with an Active8 personal trainer in 2026 involves more than simply turning up to one of our Bristol fitness centres and doing a one-to-one workout.
Our PTs also include advice and guidance on after-care for clients into each fitness plan.
This can cover areas such as effective hydration, bespoke nutritional advice, the best times and days to work out for optimum results, and much more.
We also track and review progress with all clients, so they can see the results gained from their hard work. A fitness plan should bear great results, after all.
Active8 personal trainers can provide a number of personalised training programmes for clients. Read this to find out more.
