post-natal fitness Bristol

This week, we’re talking to one of the specialist personal trainers at Active8 – Liz Wormald-James, who states that “tailored 1-2-1 training is beneficial for post-natal fitness in Bristol.”

Liz has been a PT specialising in post-natal personal fitness for over a decade, and we caught up with her this week to find out more.

How did you get into personal training?

“I had worked in hospitality as a chef and front-of-house manager but had a real passion for personal fitness. I qualified with my Level III in Personal Training in 2013, and went on to work locally from there.”

How did you come across Active8?

“I’d worked at a Bristol health and fitness centre as a Lead Coach for the gym running the team of personal trainers. I was also delivering Spin Classes, Pre and Post-Natal fitness classes as well as circuit classes.”

“In the Summer of 2020, I got in touch with Shane as I have lots of clients based in Henleaze and started working at Active8.”

What interests you in particular about post-natal fitness?

“I have helped clients with their pre and post-natal fitness in Bristol for some time, as well as training two clients throughout their entire pregnancies. I also have a child who is now six, and am passionate about helping clients to get back into shape after the incredible demands of pregnancy and childbirth.”

What sort of areas do you focus on within post-natal fitness classes?

“The body goes through intense challenges during and after pregnancy. Whether it is a natural birth or a C-Section, many women experience a huge hormonal shift, ligaments getting looser, and often knee pain.”

“I help them to safely train post-natal, as well as giving them confidence and training variations.”

What are the typical timeframes for post-natal fitness classes in Bristol?

“I recommend that clients start out once a week, but the timescales are different as pregnancy impacts women so differently. I set small workouts at home initially with body weights, then work things up from there.”

For example, many mothers need to work on certain muscle areas. They will be leaning over more than ever before with their new baby. A C-Section needs 12 weeks to heal before starting any post-natal fitness classes.”

What are the benefits of post-natal fitness classes?

“It helps boost confidence, energy levels, and mood as well as helping build overall confidence. Weight loss can be an issue where post-natal fitness can make a big difference.

Is there anything you’d like to add?

“Getting tailored 1-2-1 training is beneficial for post-natal fitness in Bristol.”
