How to stay fit Bristol Summer holidays

At Active8, our personal trainers are regularly asked at this time of year by clients how to stay fit in Bristol during the Summer holidays.

For some people, it can be difficult, with children out of school, annual holidays to plan for, and hotter weather making workouts too uncomfortable for some.

Summer holidays are the time when many focus on travel, relaxing, and enjoying outdoor activities. Many find maintaining a fitness routine hard.

If you are looking to stay fit in Bristol during the Summer holidays, our Henleaze and Clifton PTs have simple tips to try, including:

Daily activity

One of the best ways to maintain a good level of fitness during the Summer holidays is to undertake physical activity daily.

As our Bristol wellbeing experts often advise, this doesn’t mean hours in the gym, especially in hot, warm weather. Walking, jogging, cycling and swimming all help to burn calories effectively and improve overall health.

Our personal trainers recommend a minimum of 30 minutes of daily exercise.

Morning workouts are particularly good because the temperature is cooler, allowing clients to remain comfortable and feel energised for the day ahead.

Hydrate hourly

If you’re looking to stay fit in Bristol during the Summer holidays, hydration is essential in hot weather.

Excessive sweating can cause dehydration, fatigue and headaches. Carrying water and hydrating hourly as a minimum helps to reduce the risk.

A daily average of 8-10 glasses of water is recommended, but this may well increase during the Summer months. Hydrate with seasonal foods such as watermelon, cucumber, oranges and strawberries too.

Prioritise sleep

It can be difficult to get consistent, quality sleep in the Summer due to hotter nighttime temperatures and lighter evenings in general.

Quality sleep is critical for full-body recovery and supporting muscle growth.

Most of our clients in Bristol aim for 7-9 hours of sleep every night. Good quality sleep in the Summer also reduces food cravings and boosts mood.

Increase outdoor activities

Many of our clients choose to stay fit in Bristol during the Summer holidays by spending more time engaging in outdoor activities as a fitness option.

Warmer weather gives opportunities for outdoor fitness such as hiking, beach sports, kayaking and nature treks along coastal paths and in woodland.

Spending time outdoors also helps to reduce stress, increase overall motivation, boost mood and create a better general sense of wellbeing.

Realistic fitness goals

Having clear fitness goals can help to maintain a fitness programme throughout the Summer holidays in Bristol.

If you are working towards a specific aim, such as weight loss, endurance training, preparation for an event, or just to stay fit, tracking progress is key.

Consider using a fitness App or journal to monitor workouts, daily steps, water intake and eating habits.
