Winter fitness tips Bristol

The cold weather has arrived, and many clients at Active8 this week are asking for Winter fitness tips from our Bristol personal trainers.

Even the most dedicated person can have a hard time maintaining their fitness regime in Winter. Cold days and nights are tough on many.

December through to March can be disruptive to exercise routines across the city for many, and the reduced light in Winter months can also present a barrier to ongoing fitness programmes.

Physical activity levels can decrease as temperatures drop, and it is important to keep moving, stay active, and retain a regular fitness regime in Winter.

At Active8, our personal trainers in Clifton and Henleaze have devised a few top tips to help clients stay motivated and on top of their fitness goals during December and into the New Year.

Stay motivated with a fitness group

One of the best ways to maintain a Winter fitness regime is to exercise in groups. This gives a collective sense of responsibility within the group.

An exercise group, exercise partner or personal trainer in Bristol are all great ways to stay focused on fitness during the colder, wetter, darker months.

Focus on getting to the gym

Cold weather and dark days can prevent some clients from taking daily exercise. Getting to the gym daily can often give them the focus they need.

Exercise in lunch breaks

At Active8, we offer personal training sessions throughout the day, so clients can come and exercise during their lunch breaks if they prefer.

We also run evening and weekend classes and one-to-one personal training, so there are always different options for clients to stay fit and motivated with us.

Mental health matters

Regular daily exercise has been proven to help improve mental health.

According to the NHS, exercise can reduce the risk of serious illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer – find out more here.

Daily exercise also helps to combat poor mental health and can be an excellent way to deal with anxiety, depression and low mood in general.

Exercise makes us feel good, less stressed and more relaxed instantly, which comes in handy during the strains of December and Christmas.

Plan ahead

Our Bristol personal trainers advise clients to plan and wear suitable clothing when exercising in Winter. This is for indoor and outdoor fitness.

Layers and breathable clothing are essential when it comes to fitness in Winter. Ask our team for more advice when you visit our fitness centres in Henleaze and Clifton.

Don’t leave it until January

Many people binge over Christmas and they go full-steam into unrealistic fitness programmes as part of the New Year resolutions list.

It is much better to maintain a regular and appropriate level of fitness throughout the Winter, rather than a stop-start approach.

The personal fitness training available at Active8 includes a superb level of coaching for clients. Find out more from a client case study here.
